Whale Rescue Burleigh Heads
Out taking some morning photo’s, when I notice a baby whale caught in the Shark nets off Burleigh Heads. I rang the police who get the Queensland Primary Industries and Fisheries who are in charge of the net to start the rescue. The men and woman from the Fisheries and Sea World did a fantastic job in freeing the entangled baby whale. They where two very large whales (the mother and escort???) swimming around the baby and staying very close while the rescue was performed. (by a very experience whale rescue team) ....."The sooner we know that we have an entanglement, the better chance we have of a successful release," he said.

www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2009/10/13/147631_gold-coast...
Queensland Shark Control Program Manager Tony Ham said public assistance was needed with reporting suspected entanglements.
"Anyone who sees a whale or other marine life entangled in shark control equipment can call the 24-hour hotline on 1800 806 891.

"With a significant increase in the whale population - approximately 12,000 now migrating each season - entanglements are anticipated at this time of year as the population makes its journey back to southern waters," Mr Ham said.

Including today's entanglement, since 2000 28 whales have been caught in shark control equipment in Queensland.

Of these entanglements, 25 whales have been successfully released...Congratulation to all.........

I have a new foster kitten - her name is Periwinkle, or Wink for short. She's a fabulous little girl, very playful, loves to cuddle, quite an impressive purr. And, NO, I'm not keeping her. She's available for adoption through Independent Animal Rescue in Durham, NC.

I treat my animals like family; I would never ever keep them on a chain!!!! My dogs are only chain to my heart!!
I speak for those who cannot speak for or defend themselves. And I will continue to fight this fight to the last beat of my heart.

We have decided to devote our time to help the lives of animals. Animals are suffering every minute, every day. We are also decent and compassionate people dedicated to speaking out for animals. All animals should be treated with compassion, love and respect.

I am committed to the welfare of the unloved dogs in our area and intend to continue fighting for them will spend all my time and money to help animals in need.

“All animals should be treated with compassion, love and respect”

“There is little that separates humans from other sentient beings—we all feel pain, we all feel joy, we all deeply crave to be alive and live freely, and we all share this planet together.” Gandhi

Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter’s annual fundraiser is this Saturday (October 20, 2012).

The event begins at 11 a.m. near the pagoda in Patterson Park, but you’re welcome to come earlier and get some exercise.

This year BARCStober Fest, in partnership with Charm City Run, will be featuring its first “Ready…Set…Sniff 5 K Run OR Walk.”

Dogs are welcome to join their humans on the course around Baltimore’s Patterson Park.

Click here to register for the run.

BARCStober Fest is Baltimore Animal Rescue & Care Shelter’s primary annual fundraiser, and proceeds benefit the more than 12,000 homeless animals that come to BARCS each year.

The fest includes: pet contests (including costume), pet health and welfare specialists, pet blessings, pet micro-chipping, stage entertainment, food vendors, local artists, representatives from other rescue groups, a silent auction, raffles and, of course, some ready-to-be-adopted pets.

In case you haven't heard, I've been working at a rescue shelter this summer. Last week I came upon the scene of a self inflicted tragedy with one of our dogs - it was horrific and I still struggle to erase the image from my mind. Three days later this little puppy was born - the circle of life...

I loved the dog Gogama who passed away, and I love this grunting, chirping little pup who I dubbed Moonshine (her mom is named Moonbeam). I learn so much every day from these wonderful animals.

Chesterfield County Animal Shelter on Goodale Road, Chesterfield, SC

This animal shelter is run by the Sheriff, and manned by prisoners. The Sheriff had the shelter added to his budget, and does NOT like it. Odds are the bullets used were probably law enforcement issued too.

Facebook thread, the album contains pictures of the dogs when they were alive and in the shelter too: www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6470485&l=97cb8b41ce&a...

One news story: www.wsoctv.com/news/27085002/detail.html

"On Friday morning, Debbie Farhi dug up a dog in a pit across the street from the Chesterfield County Animal Shelter on Goodale Road. She told Eyewitness News she heard from shelter employees that they had taken several dogs to the area and shot them."

Tyler State Park has a Center for the Arts. For a community day event, they combined "art and animals." The center was visited by representatives from animal rescue organizations; and people of all ages participated in arts and crafts related to the human care of animals. There was even a beekeeping demonstration!

Here, an adult works with children to carve cat toys out of wood.
