BEAR LAKE CUTTHROAT TROUT

On the way back from Colorado I stopped over at the family cabin in Strawberry valley to save an hour driving in the dark. In the morning I decided to try my luck in Bryant's bay of the reservoir. At first I was using a silver spinner, and the fish would fallow it, but wouldn't strike. I had heard from some fisherman that a brass spinner works best if the Suns out, but a lot of what fisherman say should be taken with a gain of salt. But I tried it anyway, and sure enough on the first cast I watched this monster rise from the deep and rush at the spinner. You can tell by how fast they go after it whether they are going to strike, and she was moving fast and furious, and hit it hard!. I set the hook and hauled her in. She was over 20"in long and weighed more than 3 pounds. The biggest trout I have ever caught, keeping in mind that I will only fish for native, wild trout, which usually means fishing small streams above 9,000ft where they rarely get over 15"in. What a Beauty! I caught another little 9" trout on the second cast, and on the 3rd another monster as big or bigger than this one, but it got loose before I could land it.

In the house next door right next to mine
a little boy lives there
at Xmas time dear Santa Claus
brought him a teddy bear

He loves his little teddy bear
he's with it all day long
and the sweetest thing I've ever heard
is to hear him sing this song

Me and my teddy bear
have no worries, have no cares
me and my teddy bear
just play and play all day

I love my teddy bear
he has one eye and has no hair
but I love my teddy bear
we play and play all day

Every night he's with me
when I climb up the stairs
and by my bed he listens
until I say my prayers

Oh, me and my teddy bear
have no worries, have no cares
me and my teddy bear
just play and play all day

Every night he's with me
when I climb up the stairs
and by my bed he listens
until I say my prayers

Oh, me and my teddy bear

Keepers closely watched female Przewalski’s horse Brandy for the past several weeks as they realized a birth was imminent. The foal was seen nursing soon after birth, which indicates the mother and offspring are bonding well.

Przewalski’s horses are critically endangered—only a few hundred reintroduced animals live in protected areas in their native China and Mongolia. The National Zoo is at the forefront of Przewalski’s horse conservation, which includes detailed reproductive studies of the herd at CRC, leading the Przewalski’s Horse North American Species Survival Plan and using GIS technology to study their movements in the wild.

Ray Charles was the musician most responsible for developing soul music. Singers like Sam Cooke and Jackie Wilson also did a great deal to pioneer the form, but Charles did even more to devise a new form of black pop by merging '50s R&B with gospel-powered vocals, adding plenty of flavor from contemporary jazz, blues, and (in the '60s) country.

Then there was his singing; his style was among the most emotional and easily identifiable of any 20th century performer, up there with the likes of Elvis and Billie Holiday. He was also a superb keyboard player, arranger, and bandleader.

The brilliance of his 1950s and '60s work, however, can't obscure the fact that he made few classic tracks after the mid-'60s, though he recorded often and performed until the year before his death.

I believe he does have a microchip, but that won't help unless down the road someone scans it and notifies the true owners.

facts about animals

My birthstone: Turquoise so you know what month i was born.

Some facts about Turquoise:
Turquoise is the one of the official birth stones for the month of December as adopted by the American National Association of Jewelers in 1912 and the Planetary stone for Aquarius, Taurus and Sagittarius.

The name turquoise is apparently related to the fact that is was brought to Europe from the Eastern Mediterranean by Levantine traders, more commonly known as Turks. Its been used as a valuable ornament for ages and was used by the Egyptians thousands of years ago. The color is, of course, turquoise, but its range of color varies from green and greenish blue to sky blue shades.

For centuries, the most valuable turquoise came from Iran (Persia) but today some specimens mined in the southwestern United States compete with it. The name "Persian Turquoise" is now generally used to refer to any turquoise stone that does not have the black or brown veining commonly found in turquoise mined in the United States and used in a style of jewelry created by the American Indians.

The Aztecs mined turquoise in an area now known as New Mexico and a significant amount of turquoise comes from Arizona, California and Nevada in the United States.

Folklore, Legend, and Healing Properties:
Turquoise attracts money, success and love. Its powers include protection, healing, courage, friendship, and luck. Relaxes the mind, and eases mental tension.

Turquoise is sacred to many Native American's and was carved in the shape of animals and birds. These carvings were placed in the Indians tombs to attract beneficial spirits and to guard the dead. Turquoise was also used by medicine men for healing and by warriors who fixed turquoise to the end of their bows to insure accurate shots.

animals facts

Big heads, large and rounded ears, and thick, erect manes make the Grevy's zebra appear more mule-like than other zebras. In fact, many experts consider Grevy's zebras to be striped asses that are not closely related to other zebras. Their coats sport dazzling narrow stripes that wrap around each other in a concentric pattern and are bisected by a black stripe running down the spine. Grevy's zebras live in northern Kenya and southern and eastern Ethiopia. Grevy's zebras inhabit semi-desert areas, including arid grasslands and dusty acacia savannas. The most suitable areas have water year-round.

Pat & Jim
facts about animals
Meet Pat (as in Patricia) and Jim. They have moved into a "fixer upper" near the University. It's in a great neighborhood overall but it's sort of on the fringes. A little bit one way or the other and they are on the wrong side of the tracks so to speak.

Seriously then... I've not seen this roosting platform occupied in the past. In part because it is right on a road. Set back less than 4 feet from the road edge in fact. This shot is about as close as I can get to them on foot without disturbing them (though Pat has alerted and is giving me a stern look) . I won't be shooting them from this location again between her alerting to me and the powerlines (which are across the road from their roost.)

There is lots of marsh and brackish, tidally-flushed water right nearby (both sides of the road) and it's only a 1 minute commute to the open sound. No other roosts for about a mile around...so in many ways a great location (nearby golf course too!) If only the cars, joggers and bicycles would bug off. Oh well. Can't have it all, and it is a fixer upper for a young couple.

I'm not sure if this roost will make it through the season, or if they will pack it up and move to a different location. Either way at the end of the season I am going to see about having it moved further into the marsh away from the road (about 30' away and screened from the road by trees and bushes. For as long as they do maintain this roost I will bring one picture a week of Pat & Jim and their adventures to make this fixer upper work at "Nest K"

Lion (Panthera leo)

The lion is one of the four big cats in the genus Panthera, and a member of the family Felidae. With some males exceeding 250 kg (550 lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia with an endangered remnant population in Gir Forest National Park in India, having disappeared from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene, about 10,000 years ago, the lion was the most widespread large land mammal after humans. They were found in most of Africa, across Eurasia from western Europe to India, and in the Americas from the Yukon to Peru. The lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a possibly irreversible population decline of thirty to fifty percent over the past two decades in its African range. Lion populations are untenable outside designated reserves and national parks. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are currently the greatest causes of concern. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion

A volume comprising twenty-four leaves of Bible Pictures by W. de Brailes, an English artist active in Oxford in the middle of the thirteenth century. Seven leaves from the same set of images are now in the Musee Marmottan in Paris. These 31 leaves are all that remain of an image cycle that once contained at least 98 miniatures, and which was the longest cycle of Bible miniatures surviving from the thirteenth century in England. In all probability these Bible Pictures were actually prefatory matter to a Psalter, now Stockholm, National Museum, Ms. B.2010. De Brailes also composed and wrote the captions that accompany many of the images. W. de Brailes is one of only two English artists of the thirteenth century whose name we can associate with surviving works. 11 manuscripts have been identified that contain miniatures in his hand. De Brailes has a quirky and chatty style, and he was extremely gifted at turning Bible Stories into paint.
